Modal Verbs

Modal verbs are used in order to express some ideas such as possibility, permission or prohibition. In a sentence, they are located BEFORE the main verb (infinitive). Some examples are:



"Bake the cake quickly! Mary could be here before 2 o'clock"


"Mr Heisenberg can make blue acid because he is a chemist"


"You mustn't smoke at school. It is forbidden"


"It's a bit cloudy, it may rain tomorrow"
